Best time to visit the Algarve
The Algarve is a year-round destination, but the “best” month depends on what you want — peak beach heat, warm sea, or quieter, cheaper shoulder-season sun.
Winter (December–February)
Mild and often sunny, with highs of 16–17 °C and cool nights around 8–10 °C. The sea is at its coldest (about 15–16 °C). Great for walking, golf and quiet beaches; too cold for most swimmers.
Spring (March–May)
Warming steadily from the high teens to the mid-20s °C, with fresh green landscapes and wildflowers. Comfortable days, cooler evenings, and the sea slowly climbing to about 18 °C by late May.
Summer (June–August)
Hot, dry and reliably sunny. Daytime highs reach around 29 °C at the coast and often over 30 °C inland, with warm nights. The sea peaks near 22 °C — this is the main beach and swimming season.
Autumn (September–November)
A favourite time to visit: September still feels like summer with the warmest sea of the year, easing to pleasant low-20s °C in October before cooler, wetter weather arrives in November.
